It all depends on you. Can you handle a part time job and get your assignments completed correctly? Many people have and can, others cannot handle the two at the same time. Your grades and studies should always take precidence. Just remember, you do some penance now for a few years and get good grades and graduate, the rest of your life will be a lot easier for you to enjoy. If you slack off now, you'll pay for it the rest of your life with poor paying jobs, struggling to make financial ends meet, and having to put up with horrible bosses and the like.

Unfortunately, not everyone can afford to go to college without also working. From experience, I think it is better to NOT work while you're college (even in high school). College really is more demanding, especially with the insane HW load! So, if you also had a job it'd be hard to do the best you could in your classes and get the grades you deserve.
On the other hand, it would be okay to take just one or two classes at a time while working.
It also all depends on the person. Some people like taking the maximum # of credits allowed AND working. If they can handle it, hats off to them! But for me personally, I would say, wait to work. Or get a very undemanding job (very few hours a week) that can still give you time to devote to your studies. =)

If you can find a part time, on campus job, go for it! Most schools have a cap on how many hours per week you can work (and you won't make a ton of money), but they only take certain taxes out, so you net more, and sometimes you can even land a job where you can do your homework while at work (I worked in the office of one of the dorms on campus when I was in school, and I just brought my homework and did it there). It's nice for a little extra money, but not too ridiculously demanding so you can still get your work done and still have time to enjoy school!

Well, it's better to apply for jobs while still in college. Don't wait until you graduate, the good jobs need months to go through applications, interviews and all that.
Also, consider doing an internship for a semester or a sandwich job for a year. And a summer job. As long as it's related to your career, go for it.
If it's just at a restaurant, it may interfere with your studies. I know some grads who are still working at the supermarket etc that they were part timers at years ago. But, those references may still come in handy if you keep the hours under control.

I had a part time job on campus and a part time job off. It's a tough call, because on the one hand it is great to have extra spending money but depending on your major you might be better off with more free time for classes and projects.
I took TV/Film, and if I had more time to work on projects i feel like i could have gotten a lot more from school. But i was poor and had to pay some of my own way, so i had to work. My advice to you is if you decide to get a job, get one that pays a decent wage, not some crappy retail job. Especially if you like what you sell, most of your money will go into that store and you'll be jsut as broke but with great stuff.

it all depends on you! if you can handle working and studying then go for it. some poeple even don't want to work in college, but are obliged to because they have to pay thier fees, tuition and other bills. so if you are not someone who has to work in order to pay for tuition, then good for you. if you are considering working because you wan't to get some money for personal use and stuff then i say again it all depends on you. if you can handle work and keep your grades up, then definately get a job. but if working will come between you and your education, then i'll advice you not to work and focus on your education. Education is your key in life.

I have a full time job and am a single mother and I am taking 4 classes, 12 credit hours. So, I beleive it can be done. I could not make it if I did not work.

If your father can pay, its better not to work except for certain lucky students whom work is part of advancing their academic study, so they have the opportunity to gain money and education at the same time!

I work at a university--the students here who work while studying perform significantly less well than students who focus on the whole college experience. Work comes in the way of internships, community involvement, healthy social life, studying (duh) and exploring career options.
