My mom has a 97 Cad Deville Northstar with 113K miles. Its not in the greatest physical shape, leather had damage and the body has chips and sctatches. Normally I assume a car that old with thatmany miles is not worth repairing anymore and should be sold and a new one bought. However, Im trying to avoid the expense of buying another one when this one can suffice for a while. This one needs an AC compressor which should be an expensive repair. Dealer said, FIX IT, the Northstar engines are designed to last to 200K and are worth fixing even at 113K. My gut says any car over 100K is about to become a money pit and its not worth it? Anybody know if this car really has a good enough reputation to sink more money into it? FYI, it has been reliable so far up to now so thats why the mixed emotions. THX...

Keep the oil changed, do what you have to in order to get it road worthy again and just drive it. Those engines are bullet proof and if you keep it serviced you might be surprised how long it will keep running for you. 113,000 on these late models is nothing.

Well you really don't need AC. So if that's all the wrong with, keep using it. Just look at this way. Fixing the AC would probably cost as much as two car payments on a new car, Which is cheaper and makes more sense?

my car has 140,000 miles on it and it's still alive and well....of course, that's cuz my husband is my mechanic and he changes the oil every 3000 miles like clockwork!
