It depends on who your employer is, when you had the job, how long you held it for, and the other jobs listed on your resume.

If you're applying for a position for someone who does an in-depth background check (such as for the federal government or one of their contractors), they will absolutely find out about it. Otherwise, if the ones listed on your resume are clearly directly related to the position that you're applying for, they might ask why there is a gap in your employment on your resume (to which you can just tell them that these are the positions provided the most transferable skills and simply mention that you worked at whatever position you're omitting for that duration). If the references you provide to go with those other positions give you a decent recommendation, the employer will probably assume that the other one is the same.

Yes; they'll either ask about the gap in employement (and you don't want to lie!) or, if it's a job where they'll check deeper, they can research further. But, you'll need to figure out the gap, and you'll just end up explaining it anyway.

Not necessarily. If you give them a good reason why there is a gap in employment then I don't think you will run into any problems. I haven't anyways.

it depends on how thoroughly they check. some employers do very thorough checks others don't. where are you applying for and who are you trying to omit? also how long did you work for the place you are omitting?
