With my first i was 2 months along, i had to wait for my Medicaid before i could go. Second pregnancy i went right away, i was too excited. I've heard of a women who didn't have prenatal care through out her entire pregnancy and when she did go to the hospital they found out the baby had died. I'm not saying it's because she didn't have prenatal care but i am saying that if something like that happens, miscarriage, you need to know right away. Since your 6 months I'm sure you have felt the baby moving so hopefully you know everything is fine. There are tons of test that need to be done through every pregnancy to insure mother and baby are healthy. 6 months is a while to wait but i'm glad that you have decided to go!! It's so important, you need to now how the baby is growing. Don't worry about what anyone will think anyways they probably wont even ask why it's taken you so long to get to a doctor. If they do just be honest, your not the only person in the world who is afraid of having a baby.
Take care!! :-)

Obviously it's not the ideal situation, but it's certainly not uncommon, particularly among poorer women (not sure if you are here in the US, where we have lots of problems with health care). In a normal pregnancy, all the prenatal care really amounts to is monitoring... your body handles the process smoothly, and all the doctor does is say: yup, you're healthy, come back in a month.

You're doing the right thing by going for a checkup, in terms of your safety and the baby's. But don't beat yourself up too badly over this, okay.

i didnt hve prenatal care till i was about 6 months cuz I found out at about 3 months and I couldnt get in to see a doctor for like 2 months! They are all so busy it seems. But to be honest unless there is something wrong there isn't much that you need done. I mean you need the tests and stuff but i went to the doctor he checked my blood pressure and then I left. It really wasnt worth the 2 hour wait in the doctors office! But I guess the care is importnant in case something is wrong so tehy can fix it early. Good luck

I am sure a lot of girls have little or no prenatal care in the first 5 months or so. You should see the doctor, eat healthy, take prenatal vitamins and do not do anything like drinking, drugs, smoking, don't do anything that could be dangerous for your baby.

Because of issues with my health insurance, I didn't see a doctor until I was 15 weeks along. But I had been taking vitamins and reading up on everything I could get my hands on concerning pregnancy and fetal development. Lots of women never go to doctors and their babies are healthy, so try not to worry too much. It's great that you are going now, though, since something could be wrong. Good luck!

I am a mother of 3 and just like u I was 6 months along with my 2nd child before i went to a doc. I was to scared to tell anyone especially my mom. If you have not had any problems then chances are that everything will be alright. But i would not advise u to keep waiting around.

congratulations,!!! this pregnancy is going to fly in for you. yes i know a lot of friends that always left it till the 6month to go for any vists. i always had an irrigular period mabe 2 or 3 periods a year, so when i did fall pregnant i never found out till i was over the 20weeks, then would have to wait maybe another 2 or 3 weeks for hospital visit, dont worry everything will be fine, wishing you all the best. x

Hi Jewel
Believe me I know many women that haven't been to doctor until their last months of pregnancy Or in some case the day of labor. As far as you taking good care of your self by eating prop rely and taking enough rest and you know you are in good health I dont think you need a doctor unless you want to know the sex of the baby (by scan)
