When I had that problem,there was a nice carpenter ants nest right under the dishwasher,living in the sill!

They are looking for water or food.
Clean the area with clorax and the spray the walls, floors and counters tonight before bedtime, so no one touches it.
Then clean it again in the morning.

Also, put out ant repellant granules all around the outside of your home.

also, to keep them away from the dishwasher, or anywhere else for that matter, use MINT. you can either use bulk mint 'tea' leaves, fresh mint, or a product called 'Dr. Bronner's PepperMint Soap'. sprinkle leaves or spray the tea or soap near the place where you see them (and along their track, or route) for a day or two, and they will stay away for good. also, depending on what climate you live in, planting mint right outside your door is a good thing also.

run your dishwasher empty with about a cup of borax (specific cleaner) should help to get rid of them, then check for cracks in walls of dishwasher
