Whenyou hear about this "bias in the media" it's mostly people (on both ends of the political spectrum) who hear something they don't want to hear--and that really gripes them because it's true. The reality is that the media is by and large evenhanded as far as the facts are concerned--but different journalists have their own interpretations and positions. As long as they're open about that, I don't have a problem with it. They're certainly more honest and accurate about the facts than the politicians are! Granted, that's not saying much.
But you are right about corporations--especially in the media; there is far too much corruption--and far too much media power in the hands of a few corporations. We badly need to curtail this--move back to the more diverse system of large numbers of smalller media firms that used to be the case. Doing that will require a drastic overhaul of the FCC, however.
I'm afraid I can't agree entirely abut the media being responsible for the divisions in the US society, though. Granted, they've exploited it--and there's no question corporations have played on those divisions to their own ends. But I'm afraid that the American people have to accept responsibility for the "culture war" that's going on. We've allowed extremists (on the left as well as the right) to dictate the political agenda and impose a "litmus test" to pigeonhole everyone as being either "for us or against us"--whoever "us" happens to be. And that needs to stop. These extremists demand we accept ideas a package deal--and further demand that we not look at the contents--that ideas not be considered on their own merits, but solely on whether the match the PC definition of "liberal" or "conservative." And Americans need to get together and tell these extremists where to get off.

Business corrupts media just as it does politics. On both sides. Some media is biased liberally, some media is biased conservatively, democrats and republicans are paid by different companies. But the end result is the same, and whether the speaker is considered to be liberal or conservative, if they work within the narrow mindframe of American politics, the objective is always the same: secure money and power for a certain group of people. The American people need to get smart and stop bending over for these people; right now, we're looked on as nothing more than consumers in a market, NOT as human beings with social rights.

The reality is that on both sides....any news story that doesn't fit with their belief regarding the situation reported is biased to the other side.
We don't like the news so we say it is biased and therefore incorrect. Like a bunch of petulent children who demand that their world views be taken into consideration everytime a reporter tells a story.
Is there real bias out there...sure there is, but we ought to be smart enough to smell it out even when it tells us what we want to hear.
Let's look at CBS. Back in '04 they used to do their daily Fallen Heroes segment (everybody is a hero these days...). These were actually great pieces about a service person lost in Iraq. I found them to very good memorial pieces and it really bothered me to see the dreams these people had for their lives and will never get to fulfill. Of course other folks were put off by this kind of reporting and felt it played up the losses and not the successes in Iraq. So CBS changed the name and then stopped doing the segments altogether. They have been doing them a bit more lately, but again are using some other name.
My own opininon is that every fallen service person deserves a 5 minute spot for all of us to remember them and honor their sacrifice.
Because no matter you bias regarding Iraq...real people are dying and whether it's bias to report that fact or to show the newest school completed in Iraq is really irrelevant, because every brick in that building is mortared by the blood and sweat of fallen Americans.

The liberal media is not even debatable a survey was taken a few years ago where 9 out of 10 reporters and media people voted democratic. If you don't think such a lopsided representation is not going to affect your news reporting then I have a piece of land I would like to sell you.

It's a fact, democrats and republicans will always argue over something, and media is just another one of those things. Neither one of them likes bad press, that's the whole thing. Who does? But they both blame the other side. Although FOX is certainly conservative...... Maybe if they had to pay more taxes they wouldn't be so corrupt.

The news is VERY bias. They dont like to show good things happening. Does any news station ever try to show the schools with modern computers and librarys with thousands of books our goverment GAVE to the iraqi people? Nope they would rather show something about 50-60 iraqi people pissed off because the "Evil Americans" killed there neighbor just because he was a terrorist. They never show an interview with the 22 year old college student in Plano Texas that after his father passed away inherited over 250,000$ and gave it all away to homeless shelters in dallas, they would rather show a war protest. The news is not news anymore really, its a few people telling you all the bad **** going on in the wourld and they want you to watch their network.....sex drugs and death sells obviously in this country.

You've hit the nail on the head. Without unfathomable wealth, there could be neither mass media nor vast political machines. The prime goal of unfathomable wealth is to become greater, and whichever politicians can be led to do Capital's bidding will get the donations and the press coverage to win election and reelection, and subsequently sponsor and pass legislation to benefit the donor.

Of course the media loves to turn the people of the US against each other. It makes better news. With great power comes great responsibility.

In a poll among workers in the media about 60% of them are self proclaimed liberals. Now that isn't saying the news itself is liberal biased, but it would only make sense that to a degree it is.

I say the media is government propaganda. I believe nothing that comes from an American media source. It is all lies and watered down nonsense to keep people from knowing the truth of what is happening in the world.
The American media is pathetic and laughable in all forms.
