for me it would depend on the age of the waiter/waitress. if they are older (like my grandparents' age), it wouldn't bother me, but if they were younger than me, i would probably at least make a joke about it to my spouse when the waiter/waitress wasn't around. i hate it when people considerably younger than me refer to me as 'dear' or 'sugar' or 'darlin.'

Take is as a compliment whether it's intended as such or not. At the end of the meal, you get to go home with 'darling'.
Oh, and tip the waiter in all but the most extreme cases. As bad as your day has been, his or hers has been worse.

What's the big deal? I agree with the answerer above...call him darling back LOL If he was flirting it wouldnt be so obvious to you. He would make eyes at your wife when you werent looking.

Well any man that calls a woman "Darling" besides his wife or child....and is under 50 is gay.... so you have nothing to worry about.

I'd say it was slightly inappropriate, but no cause for alarm. Maybe it was his dialect. My husband would just reach for my hand over the table and say "Why yes, she is MY darling."

Some restaurants tell their servers to get super friendly with the guests. I think its creepy! Once at a Lone Star Steakhouse, this girl sits down practically in my dad's LAP to take our order! I gave her the evil eye every time she walked by.
I like the old days when your server would take your damned order, bring your damned food, and make sure you had extra napkins and enough drink in your damned cup. SILENTLY.

Absolutely NO problem....waiters/waitresses are trained to be very friendly with their customers...it is NO harm, NO foul......and to be quite honest, servers do not WANT to get involved with the customers on any level

Of course he wants a tip, that's why they do it. I would be glad that they are paying attention to my partner. Makes a person feel good.

Let it go dude. It 's just a term of endearment. Besides, even if he were hitting on your girl, did she bite? No, so let it pass.
