In May my Husband and I will be moving 9 hours away. I need to figure out the best way to transport our 3 cars plus the U-Haul. We have a Jeep, Camero and Nissan Versa. We also have to figure where to put the cats (We have 2). We might take a trip a week before to drop off a car but not sure if we will need to. ANy opinion will help.

First, are you willing to sell a car? If not, read on.

I would look at renting the uhaul at a daily rate. Take the Uhaul with a trailer/towdolly for one of the vehicles. One of you drive the Uhaul and the other follow in one car. Drive the Uhaul back once unloaded, return it, and both drive the last car to your final destination. Be sure to check the milage allowances and charges for going over on the Uhaul vs a one way trip - whichever is cheaper is obviously the best.

If a company is paying for the move, it shouldn't be an issue as it will still be cheaper than hiring movers by at least 50%. Be sure to let the company know that you may incure an additional milage charge.

On-way rentals are tricky in that if the area you are moving to has too many rentals, they may charge more for the rental. If they need vehicles, it may be less.

My brother tried to rent a truck one way from an area that did not have enough rentals for local people and basically told him "No, we won't rent you one for a one-way trip, only round trip". A little difficult to do with a 1,700 mile move.

Good Luck!!

See if you can rent one of those car haul you see on the road taking cars to dealers
Get a good friend to drive one
connect one to the eback of the uhaul truck, they have hookups

Connect one car to the uhaul, the others hook-up together
plain and simple and everybody is happy

I know U-haul can rent car trailers. Maybe one of you drive the U-Haul with one car in tow, the other one drives the Jeep towing the other car.
