I think Crash is a wonderful movie, much meaning, very visually stimulating, not sure what you're doing, but it would be very attractive and still have major impact.

Children of Heaven - Iranian movie about a boy who accidentally loses his sister's shoes and must share his own sneakers with her in a sort of relay while each attends school at different times during the day.

Running With Scissors - A woman decides her son should be raised by her psychiatrist. Adaptation of a memoir by Augusten Burroughs. Was a best-seller.

Here are a few suggestions, depending on what style of movie you enjoy. I chose mvoeis that may not be as well-known in America. These movies are among the most influential in cinema history:

-Federico Fellini's "La Dolce Vita" about Italy in the 50s and wild life there;
-Akira Kurosawa's "Rashomon" about one story and different points of view,
-Mathieu Kassovitz's "La Haine" about racism, boredom and violence in French suburbs,
-Wolfgang Petersen's "Das Boot" about war and life aboard a WWII submarine,

If you want to go into more "alternative" (i.e. more interesting movies):

-David Lynch's "Lost Highway"
-Wong Kar Wai's "Chungking Express"
-Ingmar Bergman's "Seventh Seal"

The list is obviously non-exhaustive, but should give you ideas on classics that are great to review.

The German cult classic "Der Schuh des Manitu" is absolutely hilarious. It has Michael Bully Herbig and his comedy crew, and is a parody of American and German western movies... Absolutely the funniest movie of all time. I'm not sure you can get it in anything but region 2 DVD though.

Maybe something that's good and relevant - especially something with layers of meaning... How about Children or Men or Pan's Labyrinth?
