This is kind of a tricky question to answer as there are a bunch of variables that come into play. Like is it a new dog ( does he have your trust), and more importantly has he been looked at by a vet as to determine the reason for his sore. If the dog is a new addition he needs to learn that you are not going to hurt him. If touching him anywhere is the problem you need to start small. Feed him a treat while he is lying down and pat his foot. Start with places far from the ear but where he can still see your hand. If you surprise him he will go on the defence as he does not want to be hurt. Start slow and simple. If you do this a little bit at a time a bunch of little petting/ treat episodes you should start to see improvment. I also hope that you have taken him to the vet.

Put a muzzle on the dog and take it to the vet, With a muzzle on he can not bite anyone. If the vet has to they can sedate the dog to check and treat his ears.

Take him to a vet now! If it is that painful and he cannot bear to be touched, he could attack the next person who touches him, then you are looking at him being destroyed!
