a special friend. Because of life: work, obligations, you're not able to talk to them as much as you'd like to. Do you still like to hear from them whenever possible. Even if it's a short note to say hi?

Girlfriend, YES.
Life gets in the way all the time.
I make a special point to preaddress cards and write a quick note every couple of months. I keep a list and try to call a new person every Sunday afternoon.
E-cards have saved my butt so many times- Thank god for them!
It means the world, I call them "Drive By "hi" so that they know I'm thinking of them

Of Course it is always nice to hear from your friends no matter how long it has been. Everyone gets real busy in life, so you should never take it personal. It does not mean that your friends don't like you. They just are busy!

my friend is finishing up he masters and we don't get to talk as much as when she is on break because she also works and has a life but we keep in touch with little texts or cards in the mail (our most fav thing that people just don't do anymore)

That is exactly how I stay in touch with my friends now. I take care of my elderly mother in my home which keeps me out of the loops. It's not easy but I have great friends.

I have many friends, and I work almost all day. I never get to see my friends. I sometimes call them jsut to say hi.
