I'm 15 and writing a paper for English. Wikipedia didn't answer the question I had, so I'm hoping you can. Do homsexual, transgender, and gay people have rights that heterosexuals don't? If so, what are these rights and when did they go into effect?

And if you have any information you think helped the gay rights movement along, please include that also. I've covered 1800 to 1997, and now I'm just working on today's gay rights.

No, we are all created equal and everyone has the same rights. They have to under the 14th amendment.

People shouldn't have more or special rights because of whom they have sex with.

We have all the same rights that are stated in the Constitution, but when it comes to things like adoption, and marriage we usually have things against us. It's harder for gays to adopt because of homophobia, and marriage is just another issue. If you need more information try looking up the Stonewall Riots, it's one of the most historic gay events in history, hope this helps, and good luck on the paper.

Heterosexual have more rights, the right to marry for instance. Adoption is done the same way a single person would. Everything else is not a government mandated system but fortunately, the US is a capitalist society where you can get anything done for money such as insurance together, a will drawn up, whatever.

Well not knowing where you're from I can only tell you about Canada, which is where I am from.

In Canada, Homosexuals have the same constitutional rights as Heterosexuals, including marriage. Adoption, survivor benefits, inheritance rights, etc are all protected within both Federal and Civil law. Canada is very progressive where Gays Equality is concerned.

As for the US, it is still, shall we say, a little further behind than most, the only ones worse are fundamentalist Muslim countries, where gays are routinely beheaded.

They have the same rights guanteed by the Constitution of the United States except for the right to marry in every state. They have the right to go anywhere they choose without being harassed or assaulted by those who disagree with their lifestyle, along with the need for justice to be dispensed to those who assault them in a fair and speedy fashion just like it is for anyone else in America. The Constitution DOES NOT say equal rights to all unless you are gay; it says equal rights to ALL.

Well we have the right to enter the military with our sexual orentation a secret. can not enter openly.

We have the right to be discriminated against.

We have the right to NOT be allowed to marry the one we are in love with and want to spend the rest of our lives with them.

We have the right to NOT be allowed to adopted kids who need good, healthy stable homes.

But all jokes aside we really do not have the same rights as hetero's.
we can not marry,
we can not adopt,
we can not enter the military openly.
we can not hold hands in public w/out being discriminated against.

I know that in Colorado, our State Constitution has an amendment that outlaws discrimination and homosexuals are included. but that's it; our 'marriage' law was voted against, and we're not allowed to adopt.

I didn't know that "homosexuals" were a different species of people..last time I checked, they have the same rights as others do. They are human, afterall, the "label" is what they like to place on themselves to make them seem "different" and needing to be afforded certain rights.

Everyone should have the same rights. When a group ends up getting certain priveldges that others dont, that's when trouble can start.

They're supposed to have the same rights, yet if you've been watching the news you'll see they don't. They can't marry, adopt children, see their partners in the hospital, etc...
