I saw it and thought it was fantastic! I left the theater saying "WOW!" It is quite long! But Jennifer Hudson stole the show. It IS a musical. And there are scenes where people 'break into songs' but not as much as the older musicals. It works and definitely is worth the price of admission!
The costuming was unbelievably good. The acting was good but not great in some instances. If you lived in that 'era' (if you wanna call it that) you 'get it'. Eddie Murphy plays the lothario really perfectly. The songs were good, and the 'feeling' of the 6o's and 70's was 'true'. Most younger audiences don't seem to have the patience for a movie of this caliber anymore...
Definitely a good one.

Even if you don't enjoy every minute of the film, the good outweighs the bad. THAT many academy award nominations probably wouldn't go to rubbish.

I haven't seen it but have seen trailers and if they are the best bits then I am not going to bother.
I think the most telling comment was Diana Ross saying she would watch it with her lawyers.

Why don't you find out, don't worry about what other people think. Try figuring out what type of movie it is and compare it to ur kind of movie. Some people might not have liked it because it's not there kind of movie

It is awful.
The pastiche Motown songs are dreadful, the acting is worse.
The only redeeming thing about it is Jamie Foxx.

I always think that when it comes to music, theatre movies etc. you always have to go by your own judgement.
I loved the movie- couldn't get enough, go to see it and come up with your own conclusion.....You might be surprised.

If you like musicals, you'll love it. If you don't, you won't.
