It takes time for the iron to get into the system and doing its job. If you have been on it more than 2 weeks and are still feeling bad talk to your doctor.

Is the iron in a form which is easily absorbed? Otherwise, most of it goes out (your stools turn black). There are Ferrous Sulfate and Ferrous Fumarate among others. Out of the two, I read some where that Ferrous Fumarate is better. What are you taking?

Pl. add some B 12 supplements along with Iron. You should see the difference. I am presuming that your prescription for iron was given by a doctor based on blood tests. There are other forms of anemia like sickle cell anemia and perncious anemia, which don't just respond to iron supplements. So, if you are not getting relief, talk to your doctor.

Has your doc checked your blood levels to be sure the iron is working? If not ask for another blood test to be sure it is working. Are you getting enough sleep and eating a healthy diet? Also be sure you are taking a good mulitvitamin supplement that is well abosrbed by the body and a good antioxidant supplement daily. If all of the above have been done then you need to go back to the doc to find out what else is going on besides the anemia.

My sons have this problem. Make sure you are also eating iron-rich foods. A simple way to get iron into your diet is to eat cereal with milk and a juice for breakfast.

Also get up at the same time a day and try to get to bed at the same time.

In addition, try to exercise.
