There are several kinds of college, differing greatly from your standard entrance to a public university. Private schools, of course, are an expensive, but sometimes appropriate option. A good choice (great value) is a community college or technical/vocational school. These schools offer certificates and associate's degrees with a learning environment more dedicated to the students.
Job Corps, often for those who have a difficult time finding jobs or getting into college, is a great option under those circumstances. It gives one training, housing, food, and helps find a career after training.
One more option is the military. Going into almost any field in the military requires Basic Military Training, as well as specialized training in the field. With this comes a guarantee of a job also.

that doesn't really make sense...entrance into what? where? If you don't want to go to college, you could go to trade school or become an apprentice or get a job where you learn as you go. Is that what you meant?

If you don't want to take your generals (like I didn't want to), you can go to a technical college and you take what is in your program. You will have to take some classes that are general, but not too many and they will relate to your program.
