I am not sure from your description whether you have a problem or not. But, you should know that locking your wheels while braking is dangerous. Squealing, locked tires means that they have lost all traction with the road surface and all control of the vehicle is lost. That is why they put anti-lock brake systems in cars in the first place (once they got the technology right). You can not properly diagnose a braking system from the details you have given us. Do not test your brakes by locking them up. You will hurt yourself or someone else. Furthermore, if you habitually stop your car by slamming the brake on, you will have an accident. Learn how to properly use the pedal. If I were to take an educated guess as to what problem you may have, I would suggest that the rears are not properly adjusted (if they are drum type), and/or you have not bled them right. Bleeding has to be done exactly right or you will leave compressible air in the lines. A small amount may cause you "symptoms". To be quite honest, if you don't know how to fix brakes, you should have a qualified person make your repairs. No offense intended, but I spent years learning how to fix them and I have seen some terrible effects caused by those who have not the experience to make their own repairs.

You say you don't have ABS, but that car was supposed to have ABS.. hmmmm

From what you describe it sounds like your vacuum booster is defective. It is not taking your foot pressure and applying enough boost to cause the wheels to lock up.

sounds like you do have ABS on your car... just so you know.. your petal should NEVER go to the floor.. if it does you have a problem...

if your car is stopping and you hear no sounds and it isnt pulling hard to one side or the other... and the wheel isnt shaking.... it sounds like your brakes are working fine,,,

but, you could take it to a local shop that offers a FREE inspection... like

midas
meineke

I think they offer a free inspection unless they have to hook your car up to a compter then they have like a $50.00 charge..

but you sound like you have ABS to me.. which if that is the case... your brakes are working fine

the two factors did the comparable way? if in basic terms a million area did that then seem on the different area. or you will desire to flow to motor vehicle zone and seem at a million of their haynes books. what you will desire to have executed became adjusted the brakes in remote from the drums earlier taking them off.

have your master cylinder checked,& your proportioning valve...to be sure your getting maximum pressure.......then check to see if the pad,s are installed corectly....then check to see if the caliper,s are floating [sliding] correctly.........other than this....be sure all air is bled out completly.
