Well, for openers, learn punctuation and capitalization, not to mention grammar. (You write AN essay, not A essay; the "n" serves the purpose of keeping those two vowels apart.)

Now, most essays in college give you SOMETHING for a topic. At the very least, the topic is suggested by the course the essay is for. So without that much information, there's very little we can do to help you.

If an English teacher, as those monsters are wont, has assigned a totally open-ended essay, no topic suggested, I would recommend you write about something you know in great detail, such as your hobby or your home, and provide an intimate study of a very small detail. An essay of 100 words will not leave room for more. So describe the vase your mother inherited from her grandmother, or the toy your father made for you when you were a child that you have cherished all these years.

Or take the meta-topic. Write about the worry and anxiety of trying to come up with a topic: there's at least 100 words in how hard it is to settle on one thing to write about. I did that several times in school (variations, of course), and got a 3.4 GPA overall. One I remember vividly was in response to my frustration when a teacher said "Write about anything!" So I did: I wrote about the word "anything," and used my own dictionary and thesaurus as the sources. It got an A.

First write about something you are passionate about. Write like you are talking to someone face to face-it makes it more personal. Colleges want to get to know you not what you think they want to know. If it is important to you and you have a passion for it whether you are talking about your family or hobby that will come across in your writing and the college will see what kind of person you are. Don't write about the activities you are involved in at school or things that were already answered in the application. After you write your first draft-set it aside for a day or two then re-read it and make corrections to anything that sounds off and any grammar or spelling errors you catch. After that have a few people read and let you know if anything needs clarification and about any grammar and spelling errors you missed. Don't let anyone rewrite anything for you. It will stop being your essay and start sounding like someone else. You will cheat the college out of getting to know the real you. MOST IMPORTANTLY -----DO NOT STRESS ABOUT IT!!!

Did the teacher give you any guidelines besides legnth, or is this a completely open ended essay? One thing I can say for certain. If your grammar and punctuation isn't a whole lot better on paper, no college is going to be impressed.

Talk about your goals and aspirations following your college education. Talk about the reasons that you chose this particular college. Make sure each sentence is easy to understand and doesn't "run-on". Check spelling and grammar, if possible have one of your high school teachers or guidance counselor proof read it and make suggestions. Don't worry too much. Good Luck.
