The 2012 date comes from the old Mayan Calendar expiring at the end of the era and beginning of another according to their old legend. You'll note that they had such great visions of the future that they never saw that they would get wiped out. It's all crap. I have a Barnes & Noble calendar that has Feb. 2008 as the last month in it. Does that mean the world will end then ???

The Earth will survive on it's own. It's mankind that needs to survive after that cataclysm. But there is nothing I can do aside from assuring my own survival and assuring the survival of information and a way to access it. Information will be key in a new world. We cannot let our scientific advances, medical advances and literary works fall off forever. Even if it takes 100 or 200 years for someone to begin to use the knowledge again, just having a stable source that everyone can pick from eventually will do wonders.
