I see a lot of people here bashing "free" (socialized, government-sponsored,whatever you want to call it) healthcare. I personally can't think of anything worse than being diagnosed with a brain tumour, having to undergo radiation, chemotherapy, surgery and then being stuck with a $250,000 medical bill. I think I'd rather pay a bit more income tax. And everyone's going to have to go through the medical system at some point in time, so you do get your money's worth eventually.

It isn't a racial thing it's a monetary thing--- doctors could not afford to live their affluent lifestyles that they are used to, not to mention pay off their exorbitant medical school bills if there was socialized health care--- think it through---that would mean all doctors salaries would be just that salaries-- there would be no incentive to be the "best" in your field or to overwork to build up a great practice--- or to really specialize in surgical procedures---- the carrot before the horse analogy--- our healthcare would go out the window, not that it is the greatest now but at least we have choices as to who we could see and go anywhere we want for treatment-- that will no longer be so.....if you doubt me, call a Canadian- they have socialized healthcare

Because healthcare isn't free. There's no such thing as cost- free health care anywhere in the world. It costs time and money to keep people healthy. The government may try and get you to pay taxes to pay for healthcare, or for you to pay more to corporations so that they can pay for the healthcare, but in any case you're still paying for it.

american voters and leaders do not care about others who are too poor to pay high prices. when the majority of americans are without healthcare then there may be a vote to obtain it. in the meantime it has been judged too costly by the ruling elite who have wonderful healthcare provided for THEM at taxpayers cost.
this is one of the downsides of a democracy. the minority will always get the short end of the stick in any democracy. do the math.
actually mexico has a pretty good healthcare plan available for about $500 year. many americans are retiring there and enjoying it. the doctors are just as good there as here anymore as most regular doctors in USA ( except the super expensive ones) are rather mediocre drug-pushers anyway. They do not do a lot of doctoring but just look at their computer screens and order drugs that are being advertized to them by drug companies.

Why should health care be free? You are expected to earn things in a free society. Why should you not be allowed to smoke, if you put up with the consequences? America is a FREE country, but not everything in it is free! Start taking responsibility for your existence on this planet and STOP WHINING!!

There is no such thing as "free healthcare." What you call "free healthcare" is not free. It is healthcare for X that is paid for by Y.
I'm Y. I do not want to pay for your healthcare. I already pay for my own and my children's.

that makes absolutely no sense.
people don't go to school for eight years to make a difference. you don't go to school for an education. if i wanted an education i would do it on my own terms and at my own pace by researching topics on the internet or at the library. we go to school to get a good job, so that a piece of paper says we a qualified to make a decent living. being a doctor is profitable, nationalizing healthcare would severely diminish the medical field by crippling the benefits of being a doctor. ever notice that only the crappy doctors accept medicaid and medicare?

No country has free health care. In every country someone pays for it either directly (you pay your own bills), via private insurance (you pay the insurance company), or taxes (you pay the government) or some combination.
I don't like government control of health care I like individual responsibility, funding, and decision making.

Someone has to pay for "free health care". You cannot expect someone to got to school for 10 +years {college, med school, intern/residency,}, and not get a decent compensation for it. So who will pay for it. I don't want to pay taxes like they do in Canada, then have to wait 6-12 months for a medical procedure!
