The fact of the matter is that the pilots did what they were supposed to do.
The reason we are not going to let our pilots be tried by a kangaroo court is the fact that your own country refuses to come clean about the fact that in this case _and_ the Gulf war your own commanders told our pilots that no friendly forces were in the area.
BTW - I know for a fact that British troops have accidentally engaged US troops. I was in the TOC when it happened.

How do you know, the British troops didn't bugger up and call in an air strike on their own position? After all, there have been 6 British soldiers killed by British friendly fire in Iraq so far. In the Falklands war, two British companies fought an hour long battle with each other, even the SBS and SAS fought a battle with each other during that war. So it's not like the British have a good history of their own.

good question but think better answered by answering blondie's statement.
yes other countries do it it and it doesn't cover just ally to ally but also troops of the same army shooting each other which i have seen once or twice. the fact is that in both gulf wars the americans killed more uk troops than the iraqis did and even though a lot of blue on blue happens at night when it it is very hard to distinguish we have " arcs of fire" and every commander should know his arcs exactly so it shouldn't happen.
in this case however , the pilots misled their control room by saying the tanks were
"around" their target area, not a few miles west which is where they attacked the uk convoy. also, the allies had orange tarpaulin over the tank decks, not "orange rockets " as the pilots said. (wtf?!?) and uk and american vehicles also aported the rather nifty thermal coverings, also orange to create thermal blackspots which the pilots should have checked. final piece of ID was the allies painted on arrow, right to left.
the pilots failed to check or notice any of these points and it aint the first or the last time it's happened. i do believe there is a gung-ho element in the american forces but certainly not all of them as i've worked with many professionals from the american forces who at least know their **** from elbow.

What can you say it happens. If you saw the whole video www.liveleak.com, you will see that the pilots have asked 7 or 8 times if there are friendlies in the area. All the time, except when the missles were launched were they told no friendlies in the area. They had made 6 passes past the target. In war you have SNAFUs (Situation Normal All F ed Up). Look what happened to Pat Tillman.

I'm an American, and that just makes me sick to my stomach. But ,are all other 'friendly fire' , by other countries, being reported also? Surely others make the same mistake.

Goes back to the WW2 saying, " When the Germans bomb, the British run, when the British Bomb the Germans run, when the Americans bomb, everybody runs.".
