Before the Superbowl, don't they make the championship hats for both teams, if so, what do they do with the losing team's hats? Also, when a player in a hockey game gets a hat trick and the fans throw their hats on the ice, what do they do with those hats?

the superbowl hats and shirts are given to charity and the hats on the ice after a hat trick go to the ticket booth and you pick it up at the end of the game.

Well, I know that at least in the Superbowl's case, the few hundred Superbowl items related to the losing team (hats, shirts, etc.) get donated to NFL charities and are sent to third world countries. Often times, many relief workers will notice children in impoverished nations with shirts like, "Superbowl XXXII Champions: Green Bay Packers." By donating them away, the NFL quickly removes them from the media and it gets to support one of thier many charities. As for the NHL, I suppose something similar occurs, but I cannot be certain.

The hats that were supplied to the players of the losing superbowl game go to World Vision, which deals mainly with poverty in Africa. All the Bears stuff will go to them. As far as gambles with individual stores, who knows, hopefully not a landfill.

Yea, I was just talking to my brother, he runs a Sports Mart it is a gamble for the company, you put up money and if the team doens't win they send them back to the NFL, it is a complete gamble

and with the hats on the rink, I think they go to the Lost and found

They get sent to Africa to people who live in poverty...pretty much charity. People there have no clue what the superbowl even is...it's just clothes to them. Plus, sending them there ensures that they'll never make back to the US....at least its not likely
