Large enough to cover the baby if the baby turns over. Some of the new blankets are barely larger than a paper towel!! Softness for sure and launderability, don't want to have to send anything out to the dry cleaners!!

It should be light with holes in it. Get one that is knit, hence the "holes". You don't want anything to too heavy and you want the "holes" in case the blanket somehow gets over their head, so they can breathe. Once your baby is rolling over on his own and is capable of moving the blanket, then you could get something a little heavier.
The knit blankets are nice, usually made of cotton, easy to wash and you buy one just about anywhere.

Go to the baby section of yr local department store and look for the waffle type blankets. They're like hospital blankets, but softer.

My son absolutely loves the blanket his grandmother knitted for him. She used a very soft yarn..I think she said it was called baby soft... (how appropriate)

I loved the thermal blanket made by Koala. They can be found at Babies R' Us for $5.99. They are stretchy enough for swaddling, and light enough for everyday use!

I like one that is soft and comfortable. I was give some with silk on the back and they are horrible because they slide off.

it would have to be soft and big enough that it will still fit around baby as they get bigger. Ones with silky parts on them tend to work best!

Please only use the blanket you choose when cudding with your baby, but it should never be left in the crib with them when they are asleep. Stick to super thick pajamas and layers!
