I believe it's not only about the government. Maybe one government would be good if there was only one religion, one language and one culture in the world. Keeping democracy and social rights in one big world country would also be a problem i think.
Looking at the example of Holland, it's one of the countries with highest democracy and individual rights. Now the citizens of the country are getting away from each other, minorities are living in their own worlds, groups are being formed within the country. On the contrary, France is keeping everything tight, for instance there's one official language and French government wants their citizens to have everything equally and in one form. That's not easy for minorities to accept.
It's never possible to make everyone happy at the same time.
Formally, i believe there can never be a one government world. Countries can get closer to each other only with peace and understanding.

Oh, no ---
It's a great big world full of such diverse people and territories ... we do have the most fantastic communication system now but ..... oh, no ....and people like their own people to rule them .... suppose we had a Chinese leader ... how would Americans feel .... and suppose we found that the Chinese were jealous because the Indians got more attention.... oh, no .... it would NEVER work ...... Oh, my God! It would take so long to "count the votes" that by the time they were counted, the terms of office would be OVER!!!!!
A fun question though .... Gosh, have we heard everything yet?
Carry ON.......PLEASE! That really set me up!
Peace & LOVE!!!

Nope, regionality is the only way to be truely efficient. Local governments are far more effective at dealing with problems than federal ones.
Being too far away from the problems of the people leads to poor decision making.

No, I honestly think that human nature gets in the way of ideas like this, which seem good theoretically. Like Communism for example!

It would be much worst than it is now, such a thing would only be possible with the use of force.
