Yes and yes! Though *one* cup of coffee per day really has nil effect from everything I've read - before and during pregnancy.
Smoking: "Women who smoke are 60 percent more likely than nonsmokers to be infertile. (Put into more statistical terms, studies have shown that the relative risk of infertility in women smokers is 1.60, compared to the baseline of 1.0 for nonsmokers)."
Caffeine: "Some studies have found a link between high levels of caffeine consumption by women and delayed conception. Those who consumed more than 300 mg of caffeine per day were twice as likely to have conception delayed for a year or more. Another study also linked high caffeine intake to delayed conception, but only in women consuming 500 mg or more (about four cups of coffee) per day."

Smoking matters with everything. You should definitely quit smoking and cut down on caffeine when trying to conceive. You could be pregnant for a couple of weeks before you realize it and you would be smoking while you were pregnant. I hope you'll be able to quit successfully and that you won't pick it back up after your baby is born. If you do, please don't smoke in the house or around your child. Secondhand smoke is very dangerous. Best of luck.

Yes smoking can make you less fertile. I got pg on my first month of trying though and I smoke, well smoked. Unfortunately, I miscarried at 6 weeks. I know it wouldn't be entirely down to smoking and could have just been down to nothing in particular but it does make me feel slightly guilty about it.
It depends how much coffee you drink. 2 mugs of coffee a day is fine but no more.

Both times I conceived I was a heavy smoker and coffeedrinker. I quit when I found that I was pregnant. It's one thing to ruin y own health, quite another when it's someone elses. However.... I am very fertile. If you are having trouble conceiving, you should try to make your body as healthy as you can.

I don't think either will likely affect conception, but perhaps caffeine and nicotine can disrupt your uterine lining, making it more difficult for an embryo to implant. It can't hurt to quit them, so you should just stop if you're worried about it. Besides, I don't know how long either substance stays in your system, and you definitely need to be cleared of nicotine before the 3rd week of gestation. Between the 3rd to the 8th week is when you're at highest risk of birth defects caused by teratogenic substances.

If your trying to concieve bith of those things can inhibit them...basically go on a "pregnancy" diet. Abstain from anything that you wouldn't put into your body while pregnant. I stopped both before my last pregnancy and after trying for 2 months...well..we have a daughter..we had been trying for four months before I went on the preggers diet.
In my opinion it really helped.

Quit now you need all the oxygen you can get going down there to get things going. People don't understand that smoking starves your body of oxygen, puts your heart under undue stress.
