My family and I have been debating one wether or not to move to Oregon. I want to be by the ocean, but my mom is worried about all the rain and the crappy weather up there. Does anyone know any places by the ocean that doesn't rain, or does it rain all the time everywhere? Also, does anyone know anything about Canby, Oregon? Thanks!

The two places on the coast in the Pacific Northwest with the least annual rainfall are Brookings in Oregon and Sequim in Washington on Puget Sound. Sequim is in a 'rain shadow' and gets only about 14 inches of rain a year. Brookings is in a similar basin, and gets about 20 inches. But like other answerers have said, it doesn't rain all the time - for example, we've had three weeks of really great weather this past three weeks. And even then, the type of rain is different between Oregon and Washington even. Our rain is "rain and sun, rain and sun" while Seatlle is more "grey and drizzle". So Seattle has more overcast and wet days and about 40 inches of rain. Coos Bay has about 60 inches of rain and a lot more sun.

Canby is a great little city with a lot of history. It's between Salem and Portland, so it's very easy to get ot shopping and things like concerts or the Universities. But it's a bit off the beaten path so housing isn't as expensive as either major city. Another nice smaller town is Lebanon which has quite a bit going for it. Search here on Answers for some previous answers about it. I also like Reedsport on the Oregon Coast or smaller towns outside Coos Bay. Going inland even 10 miles gets you out of the worst winter weather - where it's usually 10 degrees hotter year round than the beach.

I live in Washington, not Oregon, but I'm fairly certain the more south you go the less rain you will have.

But let me just say this; why do people almost always say rain is crappy weather? I think it's absolutely beautiful. This is why I love the ocean best in the NW, because of the rain and mist and fog. Absolutely breathtaking.

I stay in Oregon and that i do not ideas the rain, regardless of the indisputable fact that it does rain the following about 3/4 of the three hundred and sixty 5 days. We stay interior and invite people over and performance dinners and socials. contained in the summer, that is actual beautiful and have self assurance me, the Pacific Northwest is extremely interesting contained in the summer. We take our sunshine very heavily and not in any respect with no interest. so that you'll see Oregonians and Washingtonians going wild at the same time as the elements is even a mild bit wonderful, like water events, tenting, trekking, mountainbiking, outdoor activities etc. we stay it up contained in the summer! Come visit sometime.

Oregon Nut is indeed crazy. Brookings gets 80 inches of rain per year, not 20.

Eastern Oregon is desert. Even in the west where there are seasonal downpours, the rain isn't much of a problem.
