ok lets put some of the misinformation to rest. Mitsubishi Motors owns the largest bank in the world, they built their first vehicle in 1917 way before Honda and Toyota were even thought of. many of the safety innovations in Honda's and Toyota's were actually invented by Mitsubishi. Traction Control was first built by Mitsubishi, the air bag was developed by Mitsubishi, the anti lock brake, the R.I.S.E Chassis. Mitsubishi is actually the official auto manufacturer of the Japanese government, the planes that decimated pearl harbor were built by Mitsubishi, Mitsubishi has won more world rally championships than any other car company and has won the Dakar Rally a total of 11 times at one point they won 9 in a row. world wide Mitsubishi is one of the most popular vehicles on earth. the amazing toyota has had more recalls in the last three years than they have sold cars. the level of engineering that goes into a mitsubishi is far superior to anything else out there. the warranty is a 10 year 100,000 mile powertrain, 5 year 60,000 mile bumper to bumper. which can be extended to a 10 100,000 bumper to bumper. car and driver consumer digest rates them very very high every year, if you check edmunds.com actual buyers of the cars rate them very very high. the engine performance and handling cues are unlike anything you will ever experience. they are not kidding when they say driven to thrill. and they are in no financial danger what soever. unless you ask other car manufacturers who tend to be afraid of what mits brings to table in terms of driving enjoyment and vehicle features.

Dude, EVERY car breaks down.. even Hondas. It's just that the three you named have had a solid rep for over 20 years now and the domestics have JUST caught up to their high standard. Hondas had a flurry of bad distributors about ten years ago that left hundreds and hundreds of Accords and Civics dead on the roadside. Toyota had a horrible episode with America's darling, the Camry -- the oil was overheating and sludging -- causing massive internal damage to the engines. This was a design flaw -- proven by engineers, but Toyota decided to make a stand and NOT cover them under warranty. Until they were slapped with a class action lawsuit, that is. Then they bought a brand new engine for every one that had a burned or grenaded one OR bought back the car. It was handled on a one on one basis so you never really heard much on the mews about that. Even Nissan -- one of the best cars on the market, had a massive recall on the Maxima due to excessive and sudden engine fires on the V6 engines. All that being said, you won't regret buying any of these automobiles.

I have a mitsubishi powered car, and I have had good luck with it in the 5 years that I have had it...however, mitsubishi has been having SEVERE financial issues over the past few years, so they are already at a disadvantage against honda and especially toyota.

Mitsubishi has a very tough road. They aren't in the same financial situation as the other two and don't seem to be able to put out a lineup of cars that inspire people. Part of it might be their dealer group. Most Honda and Toyota dealers have nice building, professional staff, clean, good service area while most Mitsubishi dealers seem to be one step above used car dealers.

no way im in the car business and they are on a slide for the worst! any manufacturer that has to let people drive for a year before payments start is struggling. the mitsu store around the corner from my toyota store sells 30 - 40 cars a month and we sell between 200 and 300 a month. the honda store down the street sells about as many as we do. mitsu's reliability is questionable. their timing belts and chains tent to go very early and mess the motor up pretty bad when they do

If anything Mitsu is overrated. Their sales dont compare with Honda and Toyota, and their build quality is sub par at best. The eclipses had issues with their window seal melting in the heat. Lancers brake pads last maybe 15k miles. And their reliablilty is not even close. No, They are not being overlooked, they are just poor cars.

No. Mitsubishi still has a long way to go to catch up. Everyone I know who owns a Mitsubishi auto has complaints.

I own a 2000 montero sport with 94000 miles on it. It has been the best most rugged car that I have ever owned. I live in central Illinois so it gets tested every winter. I will be dissappointed if I dont get 300000 miles out of it. Just keep up on maintainance and a Mits will go for as long as you want it to.

I would say that they were competitive in the sales area, but as far as comfort safety and reliability, go with a Toyota.
