I don't think it was a disease, I thought it was bacteria.

The Martians had a terrible immune system because they were new to the diseases and illnesses on earth so they were killed by an illness. They had never had the disease before so their bodies didn't recognise viruses and bacteria. because of this the martians died!

they didn't have penicilin either so they had no anti biotics to cure them like we have!

The story ends as does the novel, with the Martians falling victim to earthly germs and bacteria.

The enemy is killed off by common bacteria on earth for which humans had developed immunity over time. Thus, Mother Nature killed off the aliens.

it was just bacteria. The bacteria that live naturally on earth. Dont think it was anything more specific.
