i have suffered from uti's for years. the best way to help with them is to drink cranberry juice(I don't like the taste so I drink the oceanspray cranapple with ice) I also urinate after sex, wipe from front to back and also as soon as you get that feeling(you know the one) start taking URISTAT, you can buy it at the store. it will change your urine color to orange but don't worry it is normal. that helps take the symptoms away fast. The biggest thing that has helpled me is I have gave up drinking caffiene. (almost a year now) and since then I have only had one uti this year, compared with almost one a month.

There are several things you can do to prevent UTIs. For starters, always wipe from front to back; secondly do not use bubble bath. And lastly, if you feel a tingling sensation coming on or slight burning then drink about 2 glass of cranberry juice then 1 glass a day until the symptoms dissapear. The acidity of the juice helps kill the bacteria that causes UTIs before they multiply too much.

Dolly,
There are several methods that help with UTI's:
1. Drink enough water. How much is enough? Take your body weight in pounds, divide that number in half, and that equals the number of ounces per day you should drink. For example a person weighing 120 lbs. should drink 60 ounces of water per day.
2. Drink cranberry juice in moderation. 6 ounces taken 3 times a day is plenty. Cranberry juice contains chemicals that "teflon coat" your bladder so the bacteria don't stick as well.
3. Wipe from front to back, keeping bacteria from the urethra. Also when you void, be sure to lean forward and make sure you completely empty the bladder.
4. Go to the bathroom after having sex to flush any bacteria from those "pipes."
5. Wear "breathable" undies to get air circulation. This is more to prevent yeast infections, but it's good for the general health of the area.
6. Up your vitamin C intake to several thousand milligrams per day.
7. Use pads instead of tampons. Sounds yucky, but effective for some.
Hope this helps, good luck!

Drink lots of water, but if you are like me, I like flavor in my drinks. I have had a problem with them my entire life. If I feel one coming on I start to drink lots of water and cranberry juice and if I'm lucky that heads it off. When I stopped drinking cokes I realized I almost completely stopped having UTI's. To test it I started drinking cokes again and immediately got a UTI. Stick to mostly clear liquids like water (the best choice) sprite, 7up, stuff like that. And of course there is the hygiene issue, but I'm sure you know how to take care of yourself. If you try the cranberry juice and clear liquids and you are keeping your hygiene up but still continue to get them you may have a more serious UTI problem that causes you to get infections no matter what you do and you may need to go to a specialist to get it under control. There are also over the counter pills (I think called something like Azo if I remember right) that are supposed to help prevent UTI's, but I didn't have any luck with them. The clear liquids worked the best. Good luck. Also, take showers instead of baths, but if you insist on, or have no choice but baths stay away from bubble bath.

Pee before and after sex. Drink plenty of water. Drink (undiluted)cranberry juice or take cranberry supplements after sex or when you feel UTI symptoms coming on. Avoid carbonated and cafenated beverages as well as spicy foods.
