I'm looking into taking my girlfriend to Las Vegas to her birthday in June and would like to go to LA during our trip.
Does anyone know how long it would take to drive to LA from Las Vegas?

ok, thanks for t answers so far. I'll be driving on a Sunday morning. If via Palm Springs or Death Valley will it take longer than if going straight there? I'm thinking of going to the theme parks for a few days before hgeading back to LV for flight back to UK..any tips/suggestions are welcome. Thanks

It takes about 4.5 hours from Las Vegas to LA. A couple other suggestions for you. You could get a ticket on Southwest Airlines pretty cheap and fly, then its only 45 mins. The last time I did this it cost $75 and that was a same day full price fare. If you want to drive, a great side trip is into/through Death Valley. There is a small ghost town called Rhyolite that is pretty neat. They have a saloon there that makes you feel like you just stepped into an old western movie. Just be prepared because in June, its hot. Another side trip you could take is to the Hoover Dam, that is an incredible sight. I've traveled extensively in those parts and there are some great places to see, much more so than LA itself.

Even though the 280 miles can be done in 4 to 5 hours, it all depends on when you go. If you drive on a Sunday, it could easily take 8 or 9 hours, since a LOT of people go from LA to Vegas on the weekend. If Southwest has a good fare, you should grab that.

If you havent booked your flights yet have you thought of flying to Vegas then back from LA. It doesnt cost too much more these days and at least you will only have one 5 hour car journey.
Check out Virgin's site.

Figure minimum of 5 hours to drive it. It took me 5 1/2 to drive there on a Saturday night, and 4 hours back on a Wednesday morning. Rush hour makes it worse, and I hear there's construction on I-15 now.

4 to 5 hours direct, but much longer if you go via Death Valley - well worth the trip though.

uhm...you can take the back way, through the desert through 29 palms, joshua tree, and palm springs...that'd be a 6 hour drive.
