For the initial glucose screening it is pretty simple, they will just draw your blood and send you on your way. If there is any indication that your blood glucose needs further testing, then you'll have a 3 hour fasting glucose test. It's basically the same concept. You go to the hospital after fasting, they draw your blood then you drink the yucky tasting stuff, wait an hour, have another blood draw, wait another hour, have another blood draw, wait another hour, have the last blood draw. I had this with my last pregnancy and was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes.

Well, I just had mine done and all they did was take me to the chair and they stuck my finger with the prick thingy that diabetics use. It hurt my finger so so bad. They took a couple of samples of blood and a little paper. Then, that is all. They told me about 10 or so minutes later that my blood sugar showed high, and that they want me to go in for a 3 hour test. When I went in for it I had to not eat again like before. They took my blood through my arm first before and then I drank the nasty stuff again. This time that had another flovar like lemon. Then ever hour for 3 times, they drew blood at my veins in my arm. Then I went home. The next day, I found that I wasn't diabetic!!

It is really very simple-they draw a few small tubes of your blood to test if you have gestational diabetes.Usually the results are back in a few days to a week.If you fail the 1st test you will probably have to take a 3 hour test-getting your blood tested each hour and drinking more of that sweet stuff. If you fail that too then you have gestational diabetes and will have to go on a special low carb diet and possibly insulin shots-depending on how well your blood sugars do.I know from personal experiance-I am 37 weeks pregnant and have gestational diabetes.

They just take your blood, that's about it, and a sample also if your doc requested it. Pretty simple, in and out. You won' tknow the results though until you visit with your doc the next time. Unless you failed the test (which you'd get a call very soon and have to go take a 3 hours test) Than you should assume things are alright.

If it is the one hour test they will just take a blood sample and you are done, if it is the three hour screen, they will draw blood once and hour for 3 hours and you cannot eat or drink anything while testing.

They will draw your blood and if it is high, they may get you to do a 3 hour test. But if the numbers are extremely high on the 1st test. You will be considered gestional diabetic and will get sent to diabetes education and go from there. I sure wish you luck. I am gest diabetic and have to use insulin twice a day. Good luck.

They will draw your blood aprox. 1 hour after you drink the liquid.
Then you can go home, they will call you if there are any concerns, or any other tests that need to be done. Remember no news is good news.

Just feels like a blood draw. In fact that is all it is. Nothing serious.
