I had an impatient teacher, but learned enough to not burn out the clutch on a 1986 Jetta with 180,000 onto which I added 30,000 miles in a year (years ago).
Anyway, my injured shoulder is finally better, and I'm wondering how to improve...
Any ideas are welcome!

well, you've got the basics down. if you want to practice, i would say go into a rural area that has hills. you can also go to a parking lot. for extra tips, consider going back to a driving school. most of the nicer schools offer classes on manual tranny cars.

The best place to learn to drive a manual transmission car is at night or weekend at some parking lot, where you have a lot of room. I took my daughter to the school parking lot at night and weekends where she had the room to concentrate on shifting instead of watching out for other traffic

If you drove a standard car for 30,000 miles then I would think that you know how already.

Try driving someplace hilly, like San Francisco. You'll get good in a hurry, or die trying.

I wouldn't recommend this if you have any sort of a heart condition.
