Only insecure people are usually jealous. People that are threatened by your success are usually jealous. And people that want something but that don't make the sacrafices are usually jealous but it's their own fault.

Some people want success but won't work for it and those don't deserve to be successful since they aren't willing to work for it. Those who do work for it deserve it. Jealous is a bad emotion to have and it will turn you into a person that you don't want to be. It's ok to be a little upset that the other person got what you want but don't be jealous of you and don't hang out with the ones who are because they will wind up hurting or even killing you to get what they want. Being jealous could only cause trouble and it's a bad emotion for someone to have. People need to realize that jealous isn't good and it will only destroy you.

We all want to succeed. Some aren't willing to put the work into what it takes to succeed. They're usually the jealous ones. Remember that jealousy can eat a person alive.
Then there's envy. That's different from jealousy. One can be envious but still happy for the person.
If people are jealous of you, don't hang with them. It's an ugly emotion.

Because the person they are jealous of has done something they feel they will never be able to do and people don't want to see other people happy and successful if they are not. Misery loves company.

From what I've heard, it's called the "crawdad effect". If you place a bunch of crawdads in a bucket and watch them, the crawdad that tries to make it out of the bucket will always be dragged down by the others.

I guess it's just human nature to see what others have accomplished and then compare yourself to that. I don't know why people can't just be happy for each other and be happy with what we have.
