It has nothing to do with having a bigger name....its all about the fact that Ohio State's three losses have come to top 5 teams (#1 Florida, #4 Wisconsin, and #5 UNC). Wisconsin has lost to teams outside of the top 15. Wisconsin still gets definite considration for beating top 10 Ohio State and Pitt but since there two losses are to lower rated teams than Ohio State's losses its going to put them lower.

This is just how the polls work. If the season ended today, Wisconsin would be a 1 seed and OSU would be a 2 seed. The reason they jumped in the polls is because Wisconsin lost and OSU won. It is simply how the polls work. It is a who's hot who's not type of deal. The selection comitee doesn't take a whole lot of consideration into the polls. They look at quality wins, conference play, neutral court games, and poor losses. Wisconsin would definitely be seeded higher than OSU at this point, so don't sweat it if your a Badgers fan.

The Polls have Ohio State higher than Wisconsin, you are wondering why Wisconsin is higher in the RPI
The Polls are based on just winning and losing (and biases of the coach and/or writer)
THE RPI forumla is 25% Teams Winning Percentage, 50% Opponents Winning Precentage and 25% Opponents' Opponents Winning Precentage
It is this that the NCAA will consider won dances in March

They are lower because of the quality of losses. OSU has lost 3 games but to #1 Florida, # 7 UNC, and #3 Wisconsin. While Wisconsin has lost to unranked Missouri St. and Indiana. Granted Wisconsin beat OSU both AP and ESPN look into the types of losses they both received.

Simply put bigger name and yes it matters in college athletics. Ohio State has the bigger name on the national scale, and they have better known players, so they got ranked higher. Its not fair, but nobody ever said it was.
