Obviously goldfish don't communicate with each other the way humans do. They do not talk to each other. They do communicate in other ways though. They can communicate through pheromones, which are like chemical triggers a fishs' body may release and another fish may detect. These can be helpful in mating. Fish can show aggession towards each other, which is a form of communication, "stay away from me". I have also heard of some studies (in Biology class) which said that fish make noises to each other that they can "hear". This can trigger mating, food, danger, territory etc. This is also a type of communication. As you may have noticed, fish will usually collect in a group around feeding time, seeming as if they recognize you. This is a sign that YOU are communicating with them. They are learning to recognize you. This is not talking, but it is communication, a visual form. One fish swimming to the surface may also trigger another to and on down the line. Something interesting I found"
"Auditory responses from a blind goldfish proved that he recognised one particular family member and a friend by voice, or vibration of sound. During feeding time the blind fish would wait for the food to fall rather than go to the top to feed among the many fish in the aquarium. This behavior was very remarkable because it showed that he recognised the vocal vibration or sound of two people specifically out of seven in the house, and wanted affection"
