When the doctor okays it.
Your doctor should give you the okay for cereal after the four month checkup. And solids after about the six month checkup. (as long as the baby is developing at the norm and has no digestive/stomach problems)

You will know yourself when to start your child off on cereals, fruits etc. All children are different. If your baby is not satiafied with just a bottle then give the baby a small bit of cereal to start off (one or two spoon fulls) and build from there. Stay away from fruit for awhile because it just acts like a laxative. I LEARNED THE HARD WAY!
best of luck x

Every child is different. I would start when they drink eight ounces of formula and are still hungry with in the next four hours. For my 1st child that was three months, my second child was two months, and my son was also about three months. When they always seem hungry and are not satisfied with formula. Then start with Rice cereal, then add the other cereals, then the yellow fruits and veges.

6 months is best time to start. Introduce one new food a week, starting with Rice cereal, then on to veggies, and lastly fruit.

Doctors will tell you 4-6 months.
But if your baby is breastfed, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for at LEAST six months, and if your baby's iron levels are fine (have them tested at his/her six month check-up if you are not sure), there is no reason to hurry the solids and in fact many reasons to delay them, including prevention of developing allergies, the opportunity to allow your child's digestive system to finish developing, continued prevention against illness provided by breastmilk, among others.
If your baby is formula-fed, the formula may not be enough after 4-6 months. Formula does not change with your baby's needs as breastmilk does, and so you must guess what each individual needs and accomodate accordingly.
Ask your doctor if your baby is on formula, but you may need to do some of your own research if your baby is breastfed. Doctors these days are trained to treat formula-fed babies and often give outdated or inaccurate advice regarding breastfed babies (mine did).
If your baby is breastfed and you would like more information about delaying solids, feel free to contact me. I have done extensive research on this subject and have a LOT of resources!
Good luck!

u usually start with cereals...anywhere between 3-4 months...although some doctors will tell you to put a small amount in their bottle at nite to help them sleep longer this can be done as early as a month....fruits are the second to be introduced...usually between 4-5 months. but all babies are different. some mothers give only milk for the first 6 months...talk to your doctor and good luck....
