Tough question.. You do want to give the space, respect and trust. If it were me, and they are still living under my roof, it means my rules. I would simply ask first. If you have a good relationship with your child you can usually tell if they are lying or hiding something. I try to ask and try to influence my moral, values, standards, etc.. Even though I should respect their privacy, if it comes to me not feeling right about or if I feel they might be crossing a line/getting into trouble/unknown territory, then I search. If your child has not deleted their browser history you can simply click on the history and see all sites they have been on. You can put a block on them if you find that the chatting in inappropriate. Just remember, being forward and up front with your child is best because they can resent you and act out if you violate their privacy.

Express your concerns to him without being overbearing. You are concerned about his activity, and you want what's best for him. Make sure he knows that, so that he doesn't think you're just saying that because you're his parent.

what?hello, he's 18 and it's the 21st century! kids his age deal with drugs, pornography and a lot of other things. If he hasn't found a girlfriend yet I guess what he's doing it's normal, even if u are against it.if it bothers you so much, just talk to him.

mom, you need to explain to him. even though he is 18, you still pay the bills. you are still supporting him. it is still your house and your rules. you would appreciate it if he would respect you rules.
