for science we have to construct a box out of cardboard & eithr glue or tape & it has to keep a pringle from being crushed...i think we are going to fill the box with popcorn but any ideas on how to keep the pringle in place???

cotton might be a better shock absorber than popcorn since it does not have hard edges. also rubber bands are good.

If you are using a large box and can pack the pringle and material just before dropping, you shouldn't need anything since the chip wont have a chance to move around in the box.

You could use thread from the pringle and just BARELY taped to the sides, so that the pringle will stay in palce while you move the box but break free from the tape easily upon impact.

Whatever you use, be careful about adding mass (weight) to the pringle itself (such as placing it in another box) - the greater the weight, the more stress placed on the cushion material and the greater the chance it will fail before stopping the pringle.

Alternatively, if you use something like cotton you won't need anything else to hold it in place.

Maybe try a box within a box. Take a small box, just big enough for the pringle and a little popcorn to support it, and then put that into your larger box.
