This is a tough question. Personally, I would hate wearing a uniform but I think the school system's thinking is that it prevents fights when kids wear clothes showing their gang affiliations. Also, kids have been killed over their expensive jackets and shoes by someone that wanted to steal them. Then there is the issue of "leveling the playing field" when you have people from very different income levels.
The last reason is particularly difficult because the poorer families then have to go out and buy uniforms just for school and that's a financial burden.
I do think there have been studies that show that academic performance goes up and fights go down in schools that enforce wearing uniforms.

No. I went to Catholic private school my whole life. Uniforms should be for private schools. Who wants to go to public school and end up having to buy a uniform? Those uniforms are expensive.
It was $100 for shoes, $50 per skirt (and if you wear the same one every day, they last maybe two years), $20 or so per shirt (and you need long sleeves, short sleeves, and polos), $12 for a pair of socks, then there's ties and sweaters and gym uniforms, plus books and lunches...
It all adds up.

I think that public schools should enforce uniforms, not to eliminate individuality, but to ensure that nobody wears anything inappropriate to school. Also, the less fortunate students will not feel left out if the rest of the students wear the same clothing as them. In this way, bullying or teasing because of clothing can, and will, be eliminated. Hope this answered the question!

Maybe not uniforms. I think all kids should be required to abide by a strict dress code. No baggy clothes. Pants should be pulled up & a belt worn. No low cut shirts or tiny skirts/shorts for the girls. Clothes should not have any logos on them.
When the kids go home they can wear what they want.

umm.. I don't think they should, because I am sure that few people would actually wear them and also because they are sooo expensive!
I go to a private high school, and I can tell you that my uniform(complete with pants, skirt, t-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, and black shoes) add up to more than $ 500 Canadian, which is A LOT!
I think that public high school are cool the way they are, and shouldn't change!

No! I hate my school uniform! I'm college student. A white blouse and navy blue skirt. I'm from a Catholic school in Philippines.

Yes, uniforms are good for protection of clothes, and to make you feel you belong to a school. However, they should not be pricey.
