Conservatives simply haven't caught up with the present. Read the dictionary definition of conservatism. The American Heritage Dictionary, Second College Edition defines conservatism this way: "The disposition in politics to maintain the existing order and to resist or oppose change." This says it all. Basically, it seems to me, conservatives are fearful people who fear what repudiation of past ideas, norms and constructs will bring in the future. Therefore, any behavior or ideas not based on established practice, or which they don't consider "normal," they are prone to attack.

"Open minded" that's funny ;) I suggest you start by reading and thinking. Rush is an entertainer - and those that do listen, don't believe what he says, they think about what he says. His show isn't about belief, its about questioning what the mainstream media publishes. Consider Bono - a champion for the left. How many on the left question his comments? What real credentials does he have to comment on public policy? Ozzi Osborne said it best - if you listen to me for politics, you're an idiot!
Criticism isn't unpatriotic - most Americans simply don't like people like Jane Fonda advancing the cause of an enemy during the time of war, committing treason against one's country is unpatriotic, and unpopular.
Not all arabs are islamic terrorists - but today, all the terrorists are arab and islamic - hmmmm, not sure, but there might be a connection. It might be that Islam is a religion that encourages violence and the on-going religious war is not new. It might also be a vast right wing conspiracy, or the next episode of 24.
Greed is good - watch Wall Street for the answer!
Make amends for past discrimination? Uh, yah - I should have to pay more taxes so that we can give money to people who were never slaves, but their great-great grand parents might have been, at a time when my family didn't even know the US existed! This is simply an on-going symptom of the victim disease that cripples society. When every one is a victim, you need government to solve your problems. Get a life, get a job, go do something, don't steal other peoples money, go earn your own.
Great questions - hope you'll think through the answers.

Wow. I'm a conservative, and guess what.
1. Criticism is NOT unpatriotic unless it's accompanied by violence or the threat of violence, or the destruction of public property (such as the Capitol steps).
2. Not all Arabs are Islamic terrorists.
3. Greed is NOT good.
4. If we're going to give reparations to the descendants of slaves, then EVERY descendant of someone who was discriminated against at ANY point in American history is also entitled to reparations. Give it up. It's silly.
5. I can't stand Rush Limbaugh.
Why do you seek to stereotype conservatives? It's obvious that we're not all the same, any more than all liberals are the same.

Criticism is only unpatriotic to ego maniacs like Rush Limbaugh. True patriots will at least listen to every ones opinion. Just remember to state your opinion calmly and respectfully. Screaming and yelling doesn't work. Neither does insulting. People won't listen if you are loud and insulting.
As to past discrimination, who are you going to make amends to? Anyone who was ever a slave has been dead for nearly 100 years. The Native Americans( I am part Apache) are making a fortune from casino's all over the country. It is impossible to make up for things that happened that long ago. All we can do is try to improve things now and for the future.

1. Criticism is patriotic, as long as it is honest and has the best interests of the country at heart. Saying junk like "Bush is killing babies for oil" is unpatriotic and just plain retarded.
2. Nobody, not one conservative has ever said "all arabs are bad". All terrorists are bad, and currently 99% are muslims. Not all Muslims are terrorists, but almost all terrorists are Muslim. It's a fact.
3. Greed is bad, enlightened self-interest is good. All creatures want to survive, it is in their self-interest. Earning what you are worth is not bad, and keeping what you earn is not bad. Forcing anyone to be paid a wage they don't deserve is bad. Stealing what anther person rightfully earned is bad.
4. Discrimination on behavior is a good thing (murder, theft, etc.). The son shall not pay for the sins of the father. To make anyone pay for someone elses mistake is wrong. I had nothing to do with slavery or discrimiation against women or anything else. Stealing my money or opportunities to pay for those crimes is wrong, stupid, and evil.
5. Rush is right.

If this is your best attempt to be open minded I would say you have failed miserably and might as well give up trying to understand. Everything you mentioned and the way it was phrased are base generalizations which do not support or reflect the reality of most conservatives. It may represent the most extreme at best. I am a conservative. I do not characterize people as unpatriotic for having dissenting opinions. I do not believe all Arabs are terrorists and in fact have friends who are Muslim who I like and respect a great deal. I do not like greed. I do not discriminate, nor have I ever discriminated against anyone and therefore do not share your guilt in this area. Nor do I feel I have anything to make up for when it concerns actions which are not of my making and are no longer considered acceptable in our society. To dwell in the past is counter-productive, we need to acknowledge, understand and move on. Lastly, I form my own opinions on matters, not based on anything a radio personality has to say. If you truly want to understand conservatives try to stop thinking about everyone using liberal stereotypes.

It simple..........listen to me and learn,
#1. Criticisum is based in fact. Whats happening to the president is hate for the sake of hate.
#2. 9 out of 10 Arabs are sympothetic towards the terrorists.
#3. No one said greed is good. The desire to make money gives other people jobs and raises everyones standard of living.
#4. You cannot make amends for past discrimination. You have to stop the current discrimination. Stop treating them like retarded children and treat them like individules that can take care of themselves.
#5. Rush has not been fat for 10 or 12 years now and you have to believe facts. Rush deals with facts and more importantly, the facts are in proper prospective. Listen to him and you too can stop being stupid.
What don't you understand about anything I said? Its easy to understand. You just have to not make up stuff on your own.
Hey Bert..........
I see you listen to Rush. He coined the expression "cannot stand the light of day" describing liberals.
He uses facts and logic Bert. Why are you still ignorant if you listen to him? You have to start believing facts Bert.

Criticism is not unpatriotic but lying about the facts to bolster your criticism is unpatriotic. It's too bad that the Democrats and the loopy liberals don't get that.
Why should my children, grandchildren or I be responsible for things that happened before I/they were born, and be at a disadvantage for that. How are my children responsible for the treatment people received a hundred years ago. Should they be denied the advantage of a higher education because of those things. If you think that's valid, you are being discriminatory yourself.
You are far from being open minded. You call Limbaugh a drug abuser, shouldn't you apply that same moniker to Teddy Kennedy or his nephew, yet I'd be willing to bet that you defend them. Obama has admitted to using cocaine so let's lump him in there too. I'd also be willing to bet that you believed that bovine excrement from Billybob Clinton about smoking marijuana but not inhaling it.
You don't get it because your viewpoint is terribly skewed to the left.

Well, I'll try and hip you to it:
Criticism is NOT unpatriotic, all Arabs are NOT Islamic terrorists, greed itself isn't a great thing, but it can be a good motivator to get things done, making amend about discrimination is a wonderful thing, and Rush uses logic and reason to make intelligent points (I don't listen to him though).
Hope this helps. Have a great day!

Because NO one wants to hear someone whine and complain and not offer any solutions. NO ONE is saying that all Arabs are terrorists but so far all of the people who have attacked us are Islamic and to ignore this is irresponsible. (I have friends who are Islamic so don't put me in a little close minded box)
We need to stop finger pointing and work together for good solutions WITH EACH OTHER until people swallow their pride nothing will change.
