"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." What I think of as beautiful might not be what others think of as beauty. I could say Michelangelo's statue of David, and htat would be right. Or the Taj Mahal in India, that also is correct. Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa comes to mind. There are many answers to this question just as there are many people with differing ideas of beauty. In my opinion, the most beautiful thing made by man is the McDonald's happy meal. . .

Pamela Anderson?
But joking aside, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so there is going to be as many opinions as the answerers.
However, I can say what is the most frightening man-made object: Joan Rivers.

One might argue between the Grecian Urn and a memory of it...beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and yet there are things that most people agree are beautiful. It is hard to peg the most beautiful piece of artifice, but a Japanese garden comes to mind--it purposefully imitates the grace of nature in a carefully crafted manner, so as to be an artificial manipulation of natural things, a perfect imitation of the beauty of nature with Man participating.

Surely it is a painting, and if I had to choose one it would probably be one of the Gaughins, because they make me tear up when I see them in galleries. Of course, it is different for each person.
