The reason I ask questions here incorporates both of these: I like to know what other people think, or what other people could think about something important in my mind; and I also like to ensure that my point of views are relevant, up to date and interesting. But most importantly asking questions here is kind of a way of travelling into my mind. It is like you cannot see what round the next corner until you get to that place, and then you see a little more into the path ahead but only to the limit where there is the next turn. Discussing things openly and none threateningly with people make them more visible, defined and memorable. It is in general a way of exploration into collective mind, exploration for the facts about about life.
More philosophical interpretation of asking questions is related to the critical part of my mind, the mind that is curious, always awake and always searching for answers. This mind needs realisation of the contents it already has in store – by this principle I can say that we are able to ask only those questions the answers to which we already know. Why for example we do not ask just about any question? Why just some questions? What makes us choose just one question out of many possible? I think answers come to us in form of questions we ask, and what we find here in response is just confirmation for what somehow we already knew, however unconsciously. If this is what you can call learning than yes, this is great way to learn about us and the world we live in.

both- i'd like to find out what people think, but at the same time take into consideration some of the things they have posted on here. especially in the philosophy section because there are a lot of stimulating and excellent questions, as well as answers that promote learning and even confirming. if it's to confirm, then it attempts to do so to establish one's point of view

Mostly I just answer. I think that most of the ones I answer are legit attempts to find knowledge. There are a ton of kids looking for homework help. I would say that a good 30% of the questions I see are just asked to stir things up.
I have to admit the one question I have asked was a confirming question.

I have read some questions that clearly a high school student has asked, they are shallow and not very in depth. I ask questions here to see what people think about a certain subject or if they liked a book that I have read. I answer questions that usually look like they have been asked by an intelligent person. And, I answer questions where men are intimidated by women.

I ask questions to try to amuse , also to give people an easy question to answer , it helps them get points (but i always choose what i think is the best answer it shows thought in the answer:: silly or not !!) a lot of Qs i look at and get info from !
I also answer lots of questions that are requireing a positive answer !! qualify the Q&As
if i ask a question that i realy cant sort out myself i will expect 1/2 answers

I think it is more opinions for most situations. The learning questions, most of them can be found by googling the question. The questions I ask, are questions I have looked for the answer for, and cannot find anything.

that depends which section you are looking in. In the science section most of the questions are for learning but I think the singles and dating section is more for confirming.
As for me I just used a search engine to answer most of my learning questions and real people for confirming questions.
I can not give you any statistics but those are my views.

Well for me it is a mixture of both!! I ask question because sometimes I do not know the answer, or my knowledge is a litlle sketchy! Sometimes I ask questions because I know the answer but then I hear a conflicting view and thus just want confirrmation of what is right. But then also sometimes I ask questions out of interest of others opinions!!

Many people post questions for neither learning nor confirming..
Say you have a homework to do.
You could do it by yourself.
You could type a few keywords in your google.
You could do some research.
Well no. You just post the question, and you wait for others to do the work for you. So you are neither "learning" nor "confirming".
(I did not mean "you" specifically)
