It's nothing new. It's been used for years. Why don't they come up with something original?

Cursing is a sign of un-intelligence. If a person was smart, they'd find some other way to express themselves.

It is language used to communicate an emotion.
It is used for the same reason, you use any word or gesture.

Why change one word without changing the rest of our language? For example, do you believe that when in trouble we should come up with something original to use instead of "help" or that instead of saying, "Hi" or "Hello" and waving our hand, tipping our hat, or smiling,we should think of something original?

Language and gestures are learned. What you are talking about is something that is a part of our culture, like other gestures and words are part of other cultures.

Individual reactions are what give some words power over others, when, in reality, no one word is better or worse than any other. Words are only symbols and meaning resides within those hearing, reading, or receiving the symbols in some manner.

If you want to make a different gesture and make up a new word, go for it. If you do it with conviction, people will probably understand what you mean, but if you do it without feeling people may just think you are strange. However, the middle finger and the word I cannot say here (together or alone), can be done with little emotion and the message remains the same because our society gives these things meaning.

Rude, angry people don't have time or brains to be original-- they are too busy letting the bees buzz in their heads because someone had the audacity to cut them off! Or let the door to the elevator close before they got there! Or buy the last box of powdered sugar off the shelf! So they use the same outdated language and hand signals. I can just see the rudeness police standing by to arrest them for lack of originality now!

It's a form of expression. The word "cool" has been around for years too. Somethings fade out of use like "keen" "neat" or "hip" and some things last longer.

There are some newer things out there...the life cycle of each is determined by it's usefulness. So, I gess the "F" word and the finger...are just excellent ways to communicate what is on your mind.

Its because the word you are referring to is so versatile. You can use the F word in absolutely any sentence. Some times you can speak a whole sentence with nothing but a string of F words and variations of it. Its an art form, its passionate, its American. Join the club!

There never has been anything new or original about filthy word or gestures.

People use these words out of frustration precisely because they have nothing original or new to say.

Yeah, it seems to be the ultimate adjective, noun and verb nowadays.....I hate "frick" as a substitute, now that gets on my nerve. Either say the real word or don't say anything at all.
When someone gives me the middle finger, I give them the california middle finger--you cali people know that that is!

When I was a kid, we had an expression for people who did things like that - we said they were "rude, crude and socially unacceptable." Maybe we liked that saying because it sounded very grown-up to our ears and we liked sounding sophisticated, especially in comparison to the crude people.
