Could it be Captain Planet and the Planeteers? He had green hair/red suit. The kids had the powers of Kwame - Earth, Linka - Wind, Gi - Water, Wheeler - Fire, and Ma-Ti - Heart. Gaia was like the spirit of earth/protector of the planet.
