i will be 40 weeks pregnant on Friday, 2/9... just yesterday, i was only 1cm dilated, where I've been for the past 3 weeks! Throughout my pregnancy, I never experienced any braxton hicks contractions.. Just this week, I started getting them.. They don't hurt at all, they just feel as though my stomach gets really tight, and I get slightly dizzy.. Today, I am getting them quite often, between 5-10 minutes apart.. Does this mean that the end is very near, like maybe tonight or tomorrow? Since I was only 1cm yesterday, I am not very hopeful, but then again, I haven't been experiencing these type of contractions.. anyone have experience with this kind of thing?

5-10 min apart and consistent? Are they getting a little more painful? It may be time. I too was stuck at 1cm for about 2weeks and actually stopped dilation at 1cm. The contractions were getting stronger but the dilation wasn't progressing, they had to help me out at the hospital to get my dilating.
I would call the doc office and let them know so that you can be checked again.

I'm going through the same thing, trying to find the answers to when the heck labor will finally start as I am due Sunday 2/11. I have searched my butt off on the internet, read all my books a thousand times, watched videos, asked other mothers and it seems it is impossible to know when or how. Every pregnancy is so insanely individual...dilation, effacement etc, all that barely means a thing. I've been dilated 1 1/2, effaced 60%, soft cervix, and head down and engaged for 3 1/2 weeks, and I lost my mucus plug 1 week ago, been having intense braxton hicks for a month, and you would think that my time would be soon, but all this apparently means nothing for me, but may have meant something for someone else long ago. It's a sucky waiting game, but waiting is really the only solution. So I've been told, you WILL know when your time has come and at least it's just hours or days and not weeks or months. To pass the time visit http://www.babycenter.com/videos/?_requestid=134773 or go walking for as long as you can stand it!!!! The past few days I've gone walking with headphones and it's been quite relaxing and passes the time well, and is supposed to help jumpstart labor....Good luck!!!

I was quite the opposite. I had braxton hicks my whole last trimester. It sounds like the end is near to me though. Are they consistently 5-10 minutes apart? Call you doctor anyways. They can at least get you it and check you out again. Baby will be here soon! Good luck!

Yes, Hon, I had them all the time with my 2nd pregnancy. Very scary for me since they started when I was 6months pregnant and then just got worse. In your case, they are not braxton hicks because you are too far along. At 39 weeks they are considered "real" contractions and you should be in to see your dr. today!!!! Good luck and God Bless you and baby.

Honey you are 39 weeks pregnant just because your cervix was only 1 cm doesn't mean when you go into active labor it will take long to be complete it only took me 6 hrs to dilate walk walk walk that will help you dilate and go sooner.

i've got consistently heard the 5-a million-a million rule. 5 minutes aside lasting a million min each for no less than an hour. yet i could pay attention to the pink RN female. Her advice is many times the final ;). Congratulations!!!

don't sound like Braxton Hicks because they're regular (btw...u lucky cow not having any!!!! lol). but i've never given birth so i wouldn't kno 100%, try phoning the hospital or NHS Direct? they tend to get things sorted very quickly on taht phone line

You can stay this way for a few more days, but with my experience we had sex and i went into labor the next day. It is a natural dilation tool. Enjoy and congratulations!!!

Please go to the doctor for any kind of pain. I know someone who lost a baby because on the phone the hospital told them the pain they were experiencing was false labor.
