Fascism and socialism are merely different variants of collectivism. You first subjugate the individual to the state, making the individual a cog in the government machine. What you then do with that machine is the difference between socialism and fascism.
Why can't the politics of the future be Libertarianism?

I wouldn't presume to know the answer, but it is very strange how neo-liberal economics, multi-national investors and less than 10% of the world, are now investing in tiger economies.
Taking a step back from the capitalist motive, isn't that much the same as international socialism, where the rich are expected to support the poor?
With world wealth in the hands of only a tiny percentage of the world population, there can be no collectivist movement and no revolution, because both politics and economics have become divorced from the reality of what is sustainable and what is not.
I suspect that planet earth will cast the deciding vote.

You could understand why, say 50 years ago or more, why people might vote socialist. But, in the modern world how can you afford to have Socialist government that believes in big government, tax and spend, has the politics of envy attitude, has an egalitarian attitude (everyone must have prizes), doesn't believe in Capitalism or Democracy. Our current Government is a nannying, PC riddled, left wing, totalitarian, unpatriotic controlling bunch.
In television debates you always find Socialist politicians appealing to the audiences predjudices and personalising issues, instead of arguing their case with logical debate. Instead of trying to reward success they always seem to want dumb everyone down to the lowest common denominator. This attitude seems to underpin all their policies. They always have been better at sharing out the nations wealth than in actually creating it. It is a negative destructive force that sucks the ambition out of people, because, like its big brother 'Communism' it fails to understand human nature.
I don't understand your under 30 barrier, because so many young people have been brainwashed by their left wing teachers/lecturers and TV channels like the BBC, that I would have thought that the under 30's would have been more likely to think that way.
Like one respondant has already said, we already have a 'fascist Government'. Fascist governments can be of the left or right. I think that we need to get back to good old traditional British values. Why do we have to have constant change?

Bob there is many in the USA but one benefits more then the other right now.. That is the price of a lawless country and the cost of freedom on the flip side..
One thing that gets lost is the Constitution that we have stamped on..
We are heading towards a civil war which will be fought one sister against the other.. so on so forth.. So in sort, we are going to have to wait to see.. But I am thinking poor communist country if we don't all knock it off..

perhaps your question should be rephrased. Mabye: "Socialism: Why does it only make sense to people under 30?"
That question is easy to answer. Ignorance. People who have lived a while can see the flaws in all systems of gov't. However when you're young and idealistic, one tends to gloss over the bad sides.

The trouble with Labour is their general incompetence and the fact they can't stop their tax and spend control freakery.
