First, it is more important to know that wrestling is more scripted than fake. The angles and storylines are fake, but the moves are real. Although wrestlers usually try to be as safe as possible in the ring they can slip up or make a mistake. They may even fall wrong. For example, if a wrestler isn't able to tuck his head in time for a body slam, there is a chance he may fall on his head and break his neck. Or sometimes when a restler is flipped, he may not have enough momentum to properly turn his body into a position where he won't get hurt. Usually, the best way to land on a move is flat on your back, and if that doesn't happen it can lead to an injury.

Because sometimes, accidents happen. The Holly injury is a prime example, where a spot through a table ended up cutting his back due to a sharp edge on the metal trim. Keep in mind that not every blade-job is shallow. Sometimes, they cut a little bit deep and that may require a stitch or two. But more often than not, the stitches and such come from spots that go a little too far and are just freak accidents. This is, of course, in the WWE. In the Indies, you may have more of those kinds of injuries because many of the wrestlers don't have as much experience, OR are trying to put on a more violent show. Stitches were MUCh more common in the old ECW, for example.

It's not "completely" fake. The outcomes are predetermined and they're not really fighting each other. They're performing high risk moves or stunts. Even though the opponents are allowing them to do the moves on each other and everything is highly choreographed and practiced, mistakes happen and no matter what you do, some of this stuff hurts. It's just not as painful as if it were truly real.

Wrestling is fake but the injuries are real. Tell me, if you life a 240 pound guy and twist in the wrong position, couldn't you hurt yourself? Wrestling is pre determined, not fake. The potenitial for injury is real. Lets say you are supposed to be slammed on the baricade and you don't put your feet down fast enough, that could break a rib. Wrestlers aren't perfect. They can be injured even if they perfect their art.

I think some injuries like Steve Austins neck injury and Triple H's first quad tear were real. Some injuries just dont go over. When MVP was "burned" in the Inferno match you could clearly see when he returned to the ring that they were fake wounds. I think other times they say a guy is injured just so he can have a break because they are constantly on the road and dont get many chances to relax.

Wrestling isn't fake, it's staged.
Wrestling isn't choreographed to the degree a ballet or ballroom dancing is, but there is a fair amount of control over what happens.
However, a certain amount of ad-lib is neccessary so that it doesn't look too fake (a good lie is shrouded in a lot of truth). After all, these people are hitting each other with lightweight aluminium chairs and being thrown around some.
Accidents will happen.

Yes, wrestling is fake, but that doesn't mean the injuries are fake also. Some injuries are fake, but sometimes the wrestler does something wrong and that's why they get injured. Some of the moves are really dangerous and they do practice them over and over agqain, but in that moment something can go wrong and the wrestler gets injured.
