Better health both of body and mind are necessary for the progress of a nation. If a nation is full of automatons with no IQ then that nation will be good only for labor intensive grunt work. On the other hand a nation full of IQ grandmasters that are perpetually sick or collapsing under the weight of their collective ailments will be at a competitive disadvantage too. The dictum " A sound body in a sound mind " is doubly true in matters of economic productivity, consequently the GDP, GNP and a nation's standard of living. So the formula is to find the right balance of nutrition, exercise, education and health to maximise productivity and competitiveness in a global economy.
