How can they charge her with attempted first degree murder? I understand she had all that stuff with her but do you think that they will be able to convict her of that?

they only have to prove intent...i think the knife the mallet and the garbage bags will prove it just fine

If all that stuff doesn't warrent a first degree intention, I don't know what does....really. The knives and garbage bags...she snapped pure and simple and they upped the charge becasue her bail was set so low, that however, didn't change even with the pumped up charge.
She had a 900 mile drive to calm down, change her mind and get a grip, I believe she still poses a serious threat to the other woman and should be in custody as we speak...ankle braceletts don't prevent crime, they are like restraining orders...they don't work if someone is hell bent on harming another. She has already proven how little regard she has for the law...really crazy stuff...
she is not gonna get less crazy or safer to be around now if a 900 mile drive, in diapers can;t do that, nothing else will either..

I smell a lifetime movie for sure!!!!!

I don't think they'll get a murder conviction, but probably attempted kidnapping. The only thing they have on the murder charge is the mallet, right? I don't think that's enough. The defense is going to say she just wanted to 'scare' the other woman, not harm her.

Edited to add: whoops, forgot about the knife. I still don't think they'll get a murder conviction, even with the knife and plastic bags thrown in.

I wouldn't be surprised if she did get off on an insanity charge. She seems kind of crazy to do what she did. I don't think women ALWAYS get off on insanity - look at the woman who was just charged with killing her husband with arsenic - she was convicted on only circumstantial evidence.

I hope that she will not be charged.
All she did was pepper- spray the ostrich.
The knife and stuff is probably items she has in her vehicle at all times. She is in the Navy and knows how to protect herself.
The other woman should drop charges because she probably deserved it.
I hope that Johnny Cochran will take this case and she will be free.
I also hope that she will reveal what brand of diaper she used so she can get big money for endorsements.
Good luck Lisa,I am supporting you!

Most women usually get off on insanity or they'll ascribe to her some PC disease like post putzo schardinia or something.

They don't even convict women for drowing their kids in the tub, throwing them off bridges or molesting minors if they're teachers. Feminist Jurisprudence usually kicks in and women are believed to be above the law and not have the dishonesty or criminal gene.

Nevertheless, I myself don't understand how she could go off the deep end like this, as she seems like she had everything going for her and appears decent.

The person below is incorrect. She was not a "soldier with hand to hand combat skills." She was in the Navy and a pilot.

To be an astronaut, she had to undergo extensive psychological testing. This means one of two things.

Either the testing astronauts undergo is woefully inadequate for her to slip through the net.

Or, she is perfectly sane and is trying to use peculiar behavior in an attempt to be able to use insanity as a defense, setting it up in case she got caught.

I think she is a very intelligent person who premeditated the whole thing. If she is not found guilty of attempted murder, she should be as I cannot see why she was carrying the collection that she was unless she intended to kill her rival..

According to police and news reports, upon arriving on a flight from Houston, Shipman said she was aware of someone following her to a satellite parking area and when she got into her car, she heard running steps and quickly locked the door. Nowak slapped the window and tried to open the car door, asked for a ride, then started crying. Shipman rolled down the window a couple of inches and Nowak allegedly sprayed pepper spray into the car. Shipman drove off to the parking lot booth where police were summoned.[10]

Nowak was arrested after the first police officer to arrive saw her attempting to throw a bag containing a wig and a BB pistol into the trash at a parking shuttle bus stop. The Orlando Police said Nowak had disguised herself during the assault by wearing a hooded tan trench coat and black wig and, along with the BB gun, was carrying a four-inch folding buck knife, a new steel mallet, black gloves, rubber tubing, plastic garbage bags and about US $600 in cash. In her statement to police, Nowak said she wanted to talk to Shipman and discuss their relationships with Oefelein. When asked if she thought the pepper spray was going to help her talking with Shipman, she replied, "That was stupid." During a search of Nowak's car parked at a nearby motel, the police found a letter written by Nowak in which they allege she proclaimed her love for Oefelein, along with latex gloves, opened packages for both a buck knife and pepper spray, an unused BB cartridge, handwritten directions to Shipman's house, copies of e-mails from Shipman to Oefelein, and diapers.[11] The astronaut explained she had used the latter during the 900-mile drive from her home in Houston, Texas to Orlando so she did not have to stop to urinate (U.S. shuttle astronauts wear diapers during launch and re-entry). They also found receipts indicating Nowak paid only in cash during her trip from Houston, including for her hotel stay.[12] Citing evidence of elaborate planning, disguises and weapons, police recommended she be held without bail.[9]

Well, Joseph C. is right. Women don't get the same sentences. I'm tired off all the excuses. She'll get a high priced defense attorney who will no doubt blame someone else for making her do this. I doubt she'll get more than a year of jail time, and that's if she gets any at all. Don't forget this was all premeditated.

She had means, opportunity, and motive. Buying the knife proves premeditation. Remember, she is a well trained soldier with hand-to-hand combat skills. It's a shame that her mind got so " troubled ". She's probably a good person.

A Mallet, Hunting knife, rope or tape or restraints, something of that nature, and garbage bags, that shows INTENT!!! She is a nut job to start with, wearing a diaper to avoid stopping to pee, so it is highly likely she had motive to cause this other woman some serious harm. Man did she blow one hell of a career or what! What an idiot!!!!!

It's possible. She did attempt to somehow get in the car, apparently even spraying the victim with pepper spray to try to disable her. If the victim had not have taken action to protect herself, she might very well be dead.
