I was a teen ager in the 80s. It depends on what period of the 80's you are talking about...early...mid...late. In the early and mid 80's there were lots of pop type songs on the charts. Late 80's and early 90's where rulled by hard rock for the most part. Here are some songs that I remember.
The Police - Everybreath you Take, I Can't Stand Losing You
Van Halen - Jump, Panama
Rick Springfield - Jessie's Girl, Love is Alright, Hard to Hold
Prince - Let's Go Crazy, Purple Rain, When the Doves Cry
Def Leppard - Photograph, Pour Some Sugar On Me
Bon Jovi - Living on a Prayer, You Give Love A Bad Name
Maddona - Like a Virgin, Material Girl, True Blue
You are talking about an entire decade so there was lots of music.

I would disregard that first answer as those are heavy metal and it sounds like she was/is more a fan of the upbeat, newer wave type music (soft rock, for lack of a better term). "Waiting for a Girl Like You" by Foreigner was voted song of the year in the late 80s, I believe. Belinda Carlisle (sp), lead singer of The Go Gos, had a song called "I Get Weak" which was good, and "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves is amazingly upbeat and dance-worthy. The soundtrack from the movie "Footloose" has lots of good songs, including one by Kenny Loggins called "Footloose" and another called "Let's Hear It For The Boy." Wilson Phillips has "Hold On" which may be early 90s, but is great. Prince has "Kiss" and "When Doves Cry" and Bobby Brown has a great song called "My Prerogative" and then there is Tone Loc, who did some funny, sexually-themed songs such as "Funky Cold Medina" and "Wild Thing." If she likes The Go Gos, listen to The Bangles; they are another girl group and did "Walk Like An Egyptian."

anything by Prince (yes, before he was the Artist Formerly Known as Prince, and then Prince again); anything by Van Halen or Sammy Hagar (their OWN stuff, not the stuff when they were together); "And She Was" Talking Heads; believe it or not, Phil Collins & Genesis were pretty big; Police/Sting lots of their tunes; we listened to a lot of Pink Floyd and Queen, even though most of those songs were written before the 80's; Madonna, when she was "like" a virgin; The Babies; The Ramones; "Freeze Frame" - sorry, i was pretty high so can't remember who did that one; Huey Lewis & the News ("if this is it," "i want a new drug"); "i want my MTV" again, too high to remember the artist; Ozzy Ozbourn was a demi-god; ... that's just a few, we had really limited attention spans, and listened to lots of punk, new wave, heavy metal, hard rock. you name it, we listened to it or danced to it or... well you get the picture.
