Honey, I was there! My wife and I met when I was 18 and she was 17. She lived in NYC, and I lived in Orlando.
You don't have to pay a lot. Do it *now*, before you have to go to UPS Next-Day or Second-Day Air to have it make it there on Valentine's Day, because that will cost a fortune.
I think this is a good idea: A gift card for cell-phone time. (Ask her what plan she's on first. You can get those at any convenience store. Don't get Tracfone or Virgin Top-Up unless she's on Tracfone or Virgin.) Tuck it inside a mushy card, along with some pictures of you and your home/pets/town. Write a long note inside it. I know you can e-mail, but it's so nice to have something you can hold.

Instead of calling send her something via us mail like a card w/ your picture, a poem, or a token of your appreciation for her.
